Brahma Temple, Pushkar

 Brahma Temple, Pushkar

Jagatpita Brahma Mandir or the Brahma Temple in Pushkar, Rajasthan, is the most famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Brahma, who is considered the creator of the universe.

It is the only temple dedicated to Brahma in India and attracts lakhs of pilgrims every year. The small town of Pushkar appears sacred due to the presence of the Brahma temple. It is also mentioned in the top ten religious sites in the world and the five sacred pilgrimage sites for Hindus in India. The Brahma Temple was originally built in the 14th century and is believed to be 2000 years old. Originally built by the sage Vishwamitra, it was renovated several times under Adi Shankara.

It was built of marble and huge stone slabs and houses the images of Lord Brahma and his two wives Gayatri and Savitri. The shrine is administered by priests of the Sanyasi (ascetic) sect. The fact that Lord Brahma chose Pushkar to perform a yagya makes this city sacred. The holy Pushkar Lake, which flows right in front of the temple, adds to its purity. The place has a different aura that immerses you in its holiness. The auspicious day of Kartik Poornima takes spirituality to a new level.

A visit to the Brahma temple and a dip in the holy Pushkar lake will surely rid you of all your sins. Worshipping Lord Brahma, who is rarely encountered, is tantamount to attaining liberation and should therefore be on your bucket list.

The Brahma Temple was originally built in the 14th century on the banks of the Pushkar River. Situated on an elevated platform, a series of marble steps lead you to the main temple. At the top of the main gateway is an image of Hans, the vehicle of Lord Brahma. Through the gateway you enter the main hall, also called the mandapa. There is a garbhagriha, a place where the deity resides.

The ideal time to visit the Brahma temple is between October and March, when the winter season begins.
