Jain Temples in Jaisalmer

 Jain Temples in Jaisalmer

The Jain temples in Jaisalmer, located in the Jaisalmer Fort, are a must-see when you are in the city. Though the temples are very old, they have high religious significance and are associated with ancient knowledge.

Built in the Dilwara style, known worldwide for its architecture, the temples are dedicated to Rikhabdevji and Shambhavdev Ji, the famous Jain hermits known as 'Tirthankaras'. An important pilgrimage site, the Jain temples are a real treasure of Jaisalmer and an entertaining place for all those tourists interested in history and religion.

All seven temples are interconnected and built of the same golden Jaisalmeri stone. Each temple seems like a riddle to the visitors with its own story to tell. These temples, dedicated to Rishabhdev, Sambhavnath, Chandraprabhu and Parsvanath, have the most beautiful carvings. You can admire the stunning sculptures on the walls, protected by glass cabinets and pillars with carved deities and celestial women.

If you are particularly interested in exploring the ancient remains and history of these temples, there is a place that is just for that - the Gyan Bhandar. As the name suggests, the Gyan Bhandar is a very small and attractive library founded in the 1500s. Priceless ancient texts and manuscripts are in the library. The Jain temples in Jaisalmer are a must-see, especially if you are interested in architecture and history.
