Lake Pichola, Udaipur- largest lakes in the city
Lake Pichola is an artificial lake in the heart of Udaipur, Rajasthan. The oldest and one of the largest lakes in the city, Lake Pichola is visited by oodles of tourists for its tranquillity and beauty.
Flanked by high hills, historical buildings and bathing ghats, it is a dream come true for peace and nature lovers. A visit to Lake Pichola is incomplete without a boat ride, especially at dawn. In the evening, it seems as if the whole place is dipped in gold as you see the historic buildings and pristine waters turn golden with the reflection of the sun. Lake Pichola was built by Pichhu Banjara during the reign of Maharana Lakha in 1362 AD.
It is 3 miles long, 2 miles wide and has a depth of 30 feet. Maharana Udai Singh, who was charmed by the charm of the lake, enlarged it and also built a dam on the banks of the lake. The lush green hills in the background and the many royal palaces on the banks of the lake are the icing on the cake. The beautiful Udaipur City Palace adorns the eastern bank, while the Mohan Mandir is in the north-eastern corner.

Lake Pichola is located in the city of Udaipur in Rajasthan. You can easily reach the lake by tonga, auto-rickshaws or cabs. Local buses can also be conveniently hired.
Boat rides on the calm waters of Lake Pichola are a great experience. Tickets are available at the City Palace and cost around INR 400-600 for adults and INR 200 for children. The charges for the sunset cruise are high. The boats have six to eight seats and are fitted with a canopy. Wearing life jackets is compulsory. The boat ride starts from Rameshwar Ghat and takes you first to Lake Palace Hotel. Then it continues to Jagmandir where you can take a break and enjoy the picturesque views.

In summer, it gets too hot in Udaipur as the mercury rises up to 40 degrees Celcius. Therefore, it is better not to visit the city between March and June. During the monsoon, which starts in July and lasts till September, you can enjoy the mesmerising view of Lake Pichola. The temperature stays between 25 and 35 degrees Celcius. Winter is also an ideal time to visit the lake as the weather is pleasant and calm. The best time of day to visit the lake is in the evening as the sunset view is breathtaking.
