Gadisar Lake, Jaisalmer

 Gadisar Lake, Jaisalmer

On the outskirts of Jaisalmer in the arid state of Rajasthan lies the beautiful Gadisar Lake, which is like an oasis in the heart of the desert. In mediaeval times, there were no canals, irrigation systems or other scientific methods to bring water to the arid regions of Rajasthan. This reservoir was built by Raja Rawal Jaisal to meet the needs of his people. Located near the Jaisalmer fort, the lake is a welcome change from the hot and dry desert climate. Gadisar Lake offers picturesque views of the lake and the adjoining fort, especially when the eastern sky is blood red and the sun rises and hits its rays on the upper floors of the Jaisalmer fort.

Whether you want to spend some quiet time alone or have fun with your family, Gadisar Lake has a handful of experiences to offer. You can go boating on the lake or simply take a stroll along the shore. If you visit the lake in winter, you may even be lucky enough to spot exotic migratory birds from the nearby Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary flocking around the lake.
