Athirappally, Kerala

 Athirappilly is a first-degree Grama Panchayath with an area of 489.00 km2 in Chalakudy Taluk, Thrissur region of Kerala, India. It is located 60 km from Thrissur city, 70 km east of Kochi city, 55 km east of Cochin International Airport, and 30 km from Chalakudy town. Athirappilly Falls is located 1000 feet above sea level on the Chalakudy waterway, at the junction with the Sholayar areas of the Western Ghats. Athirappalli is a picturesque mix of backwoods and small streams.

With a drop of 80 feet, this is one of the largest waterfalls in the state. Many endangered and endemic vegetation species are found in the forests of the Athirapilly-Vazhachal area. This area is the most important place in the Western Ghats where four endangered hornbill species can be seen. The Western Ghats is one of the most critical areas in the world in terms of biodiversity. This important regular world has already been destroyed by mining and hydropower.
