Vaikom, Kerala
Vaikom is the capital of Vaikom Taluk, located in the northwest of the Kottayam district in the Indian state of Kerala. The city is also known for its work in Indian autonomy development, as it was the site of Vaikom Satyagraha, a social equality development that aimed to enshrine the possibility of development for all sections of society in the streets of the people.
The town of Vaikom is located at the north-western end of Kottayam, near the Ernakulam region. It borders the Vembanad Lake to the west and is crossed by various estuaries of the Muvattupuzha River. Vaikom is the oldest village in the Kottayam region and one of the most famous in South India. Vaikom is also close to the famous tourist destination of Kumarakom. Vaikom is 37 km from Ernakulam and 32 km from Kottayam and about 60 km from Kochi International Airport.
