Kattappana, Kerala

 Kattappana is a civil township in the Sahyadri or Western Ghats in the Indian state of Kerala. It is the main urban focal point in the high reaches of the Idukki locality, which is about 2,788.71 - 2,952.76 feet above mean sea level, in the High Ranges, the high altitude area of Kerala recently elevated to the status of a region. Kattappana is a CLASS III urban hotspot. It is the primary region in the high range of the Idukki region with the real erroneous contact of Idukki as the Thodupuzha region is located in the low range.

The town had an extensive population of Syrian Catholic families who shifted to Kattappana from central Travancore in the mid-1950s. Kattappana is the center for the exchange of aromas and the main producer of cardamom and black pepper. The main occupation of the people of Kattappana is agriculture. A special variety of Njallani, a very high-yielding cardamom variety, was produced in Kattappana.
