Thrissur! is also known as the cultural capital of Kerala

Thrissur is also known as the cultural capital of Kerala, as the city has exerted cultural, spiritual and religious influences throughout history. Thrissur, formerly Trichur, is a city in the central state of Kerala in southwest India and is home to some of the oldest mosques and churches in the country. Industries in the city include cotton weaving, rice and oilseed milling, soap making, and sawmilling. The city is also a retail center for the state of Kerala and is home to some of the largest jewelry and textile companies in the region.

Thrissur is one of the best-prepared cities in Kerala. Legend has it that the city was founded by Lord Parasurama shortly after the founding of Kerala by constructing a huge Shiva sanctuary. The entire city revolves around the incredible Shiva temple known as the Vadakumnathan temple. The shrine is located at the junction of a large roundabout, which is 64 acres in size. This roundabout is known as Swaraj Round 

Our Lady of Lourdes Metropolitan Cathedral



Considered one of the most important churches in Kerala, Our Lady of Lourdes Metropolitan Cathedral is located in the heart of Thrissur city in the Indian state of Kerala. The Syro-Malabar Catholic Church is dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes and is distinguished by its imposing interiors. The main attraction is an underground shrine, considered a masterpiece of architecture. It is said that Father John Maliekkal planned and built this church. The exterior of the church features an Indo-European façade with white towers.

Vadakkunnathan Temple



The Vadakkunnathan Temple is a historic Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva in the city of Thrissur in the Indian state of Kerala. This temple is a traditional example of Kerala architectural fashion and has enormous towers on all 4 sides in addition to a Kuttambalam. In the temple you can see murals depicting various episodes from the Mahabharata.

Paramekkavu Bagavathi Temple

Bible Tower



The Bible Tower is located in the city of Thrissur in Kerala, India. It was inaugurated on 7 January 2007. The tower is the tallest church tower in India and Asia. It is also the tallest form in the whole of Kerala. The building has been certified as earthquake resistant by officials of the Ministry of Geology of India.

Peruvanam Mahadeva Temple

Peruvanam Mahadev Temple is a Shiva temple in Thrissur district, Kerala, India. The temple is said to have come into existence with the beginning of Kerala and the appearance of Parasurama. Parashurama is the sixth avatar of Vishnu in Hinduism. Born a Brahmin, Parshuram carried tendencies of a Kshatriya and is often portrayed as a Brahmin Kshatriya.

Vadakkechira

Vadakkechira is one of the 4 oldest ponds in the metropolis of Thrissur in Kerala in India. It was built with the help of Shakthan Thampuran and is one of the well-known landmarks of Thrissur. It is owned by the Cochin Devaswom Board. Sakthan Thampuran, Maharaja of Cochin, had four ponds constructed in the Thrissur metropolis during his reign for water management and irrigation. They are Vadakkechira, Padinjarechira, Thekkechira and Kizakechira. The members of the royal family of Cochin and the monks of the Ashokeswaram temple bathed at the ghats on the north side of the pond, the public on the other sides.

Ramavarma Appan Thampuran memorial

The Ramavarma Appan Thampuran Memorial was built in 1976 at Ayyanthole, Thrissur town in Kerala, in memory of Ramavarma Appan Thampuran and his literary and cultural merits. The memorial was set up below the Kerala Sahitya Academy in Kumarapuram Palace, where Ramavarma Appan Thampuran lived. The memorial consists of a library containing a large number of famous books, journals, magazines and so on. The library of the memorial is the best in Kerala, containing 7,160 specific volumes of periodicals.

Chaldean Syriac Church

The Chaldean Syriac Church of India is an Eastern Christian Church based in Thrissur, India. It is an Archbishopric of the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East and is in full communion with Patriarch Gewargis III, the Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East. The Chaldean Syriac Church uses the Divine Liturgy of Saints Mar Addai and Mar Mari, which is part of the liturgy of the East Syriac Rite. Its members are part of the St Thomas Christian community, which traces its origins to the evangelistic interest of the Apostle Thomas in the 1st century.

Mithranandapuram Vamanamoorthy Temple



The Mithranandapuram Vamanamoorthy Temple is a Hindu temple in the Thrissur district of Kerala, India. According to legend, the idol worshipped here is more than 1,500 years old. Mahabali, the king of the Daityas or Asuras, i.e. the demons in the Treta Yuga, reached the zenith of his energy and prestige. He owed his extraordinary fulfilment and prosperity to the observance of a strict and virtuous lifestyle. He performed many ritual sacrifices or yajna to consolidate his rule over the three worlds of the universe. It is one of the great places.
